The Ultimate Guide to Overland Camping

You’re going on your very first trip overland? You can make your first camping trip more enjoyable with these hacks.

When you plan a vacation, the small things can make a big difference. Here are a few simple tips to make camping on the road more fun.

Buy A Quality Sleeping Bag

The first trick is to get a high-quality sleeping bag. One of the most essential camping items is a sleeping bag. You will be comfortable, warm and dry at night.

A good quality sleeping bag should be able to keep you warm down to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-6 degrees Celsius). If you don’t need a heavy sleeping bag, choose one with a lighter design. Some bags have removable liners for warm weather.

Many people are hesitant to invest in a sleeping bag, yet you’ll spend 8 hours per night inside it.

Bring Extra Bedding

Extra bedding can help you get a better night’s sleep when overlanding camping.

You should try to keep yourself away from the floor as much as you can.

You can bring an airbed or inflatable bed with you, and a battery operated air pump. Hate air mattress? Find a compressed foam mattress.

Pack Light

Even when you are car camping or on a long-distance trip, it is important to pack light. You can’t bring everything, even if you are filling an entire car.

Decide what you want and need. Next, find alternative tools that do the same thing and maybe even multiple things. The key to saving space is multi-purpose tools. Instead of a shovel, for example, buy a tactical shovel that can do more jobs.

Buy a High-Quality Cookset

Cooksets are a group of cooking utensils, pots and pans. The best kit will be suitable for camping as well as backpacking. It is usually low-weight and multi-functional.

Cookware is a necessity, just like a sleeping bag. Many people say that overlanding is just traveling to  find a place to eat. It is important to prepare your meals in advance and have a quality cook set.

Pack Spare Clothes & Gear

There is almost always room for more clothing. It happens and you don’t always want to have dirty clothes on hand. If you have no dry clothing available, it’s worse to get stuck in wet or dirty clothes.

Bring extra socks or underwear. You’ll thank me for it later.

Refrigerate your Food

Keep food cool while travelling is one of the biggest food problems.

A quality ice box is the easiest way to ensure that your food remains cold. The use of a Yeti cooler or Igloos will help keep your food cool for longer.

Take two coolers if you have the space. Take two coolers: one for drinks, and another for food. Your food cooler will not be opened too frequently if you use this.
