Renting skis: What you need to know

What is needed to properly fit your skis by the expert at the rental shop:

  • Height, weight and shoe sizes are different for each person.
  • Skiing experience and/or level of skiing. Beginner, intermediate, or expert, for example.
  • What terrain are intermediate and advanced skiers supposed to be skiing, such as off-piste or on-piste?

Lionel says: “The technician will select the best type of ski and the length based on this information.” It can also be based on the snow conditions at the resort, and the terrain that the customer prefers to ski.

The technician will then adjust the bindings to the correct tension based on the weight of the customer and their level of skiing experience. This ensures that they can release safely in the event of a twist or fall.

Ski hire shops: Tips for your visit

Take a few things with you when you go to the ski rental shop

  • Ski socks are available in a variety of styles.
  • Bring a boot with you if you’re only renting skis. The bindings will need to be adjusted.
  • You can use strong reusable bags to transport boots and helmets from and to the rental shop.

Lionel’s tip for ski socks: “Invest in high-quality ski socks and wear only one pair in your ski boots.”

Ski rental is available at a reasonable price

You should take care of your rental equipment.

  • You should take photos of the equipment for each person in case it goes missing.
  • Keep the contact information of the rental company handy in case you need to reach them.
  • When stopping for drinks, a lunch break or apres ski, use a lock to secure your equipment.
  • If offered, consider a ski rental waiver insurance. It can offset any accidental damage to skis.
